Tour Description
Windhoek is the capital of Namibia. With a population of less than 200,000 you would only call it a city by Namibian standards. It is quite a laidback, clean and easy going place. There are a few sights, good restaurants and lively bars. In short it is a great place to start exploring Namibia.
Set at the geographical heart of Namibia ,Windhoek serves as the road and rail crossroads and the nerve center of the country's business and commerce.
Damaraland is the old apartheid name given to the region south of Kaokoland and north of the main road to Swakopmund. The name Damaraland is derived from the fact that the Damara people live in this area (they were relocated here as a result of the Odendaal Plan in the 1960's). The name Damaraland is still commonly used in tourism circles, although the entire region has now been renamed; the southern section now lies in the Erongo region while the north forms part of the Kunene region.

Itinerary
DAY 1 - SATURDAY WINDHOEK - SWAKOPMUND
Depart Windhoek and travel via Gamsberg Pass. Packed lunch. See the 'Welwitschia Mirabilis' plants said to grow older than a 1000 years and visit Moon Landscape, before arriving late afternoon in Swakopmund for overnight. [Dinner + Lunch Pack]
DAY 2 - SUNDAY SWAKOPMUND - DAMARALAND
Early departure towards Henties Bay. Visit Twyfelfontein and the Organ Pipes en-route to Damaraland. Packed lunch. Arrive at remote lodge in the afternoon for 2 overnights. [Breakfast and Dinner + Lunch Pack]
DAY 3 - MONDAY DAMARALAND
Morning outing with the specialist guides. Return to the lodge for lunch. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure or join a guided walk where you are introduced to the rich fauna & flora of the area. Overnight Damaraland. [Full Board]
DAY 4 - TUESDAY DAMARALAND - OTJIWARONGO
Depart Damaraland, one of the last real wilderness areas in Africa. Visit a Himba village near Outjo and learn more about the culture and the tradition of these hald-nomadic people. Continue via Kamanjab to a private game farm. [Breakfast and Dinner]
DAY 5 - WEDNESDAY OTJIWARONGO - WINDHOEK
Join an early morning game drive. Return to Windhoek via Okahandja. Visit Herero graves and local handicraft market. Tour ends on arrival in Windhoek. [Breakfast]
