  Tour Description
Lesotho is a landlocked country and enclave — entirely surrounded by South Africa. It lies entirely above 1,000 metres above sea level with its lowest point at 1,400 metres and over 80% of the country lies above 1,800 metres.

Known as the Kingdom in the Sky it is building a reputation as a fantastic adventure holiday destination.

The Basotho people are very friendly and welcoming, the country is relatively safe and politically stable. It offers a magnificent opportunity to explore nature still little changed by man, still unspoilt by crowds of tourists, and to appreciate the untamed but beautiful landscapes of the soaring Maluti and Drakensberg mountains.

The Roof of Africa Circle Route will take you in three days (two nights) through the central and eastern Maloti Mountains. For this tour a 4x4 vehicle is mandatory.

This tour requires a minimum of 4 people for a departure.

Itinerary
Day 1
We first travel through the Low Lands to the town of Leribe and carry on from there in south eastern direction into the central mountains. We will be driving through a breathtaking scenery of mountains, valleys, beautiful mountain streams and waterfalls and enter deeper and deeper into the central mountains.

Eventually we reach the beautiful Katse Dam and follow the western shore of it until we reach Katse Village. In Katse we will make a tour into the interior of the Dam Wall.
The first night will be spent in Katse.

Day 2
We continue further in a south eastern direction deeper into the Maloti Mountains. Our route now takes us over mountain trails. We will pass the remote villages of Thaba-Tseka, Mohlanapeng, Taung, Linakaneng on our way to the old Trading Post Molumong, our destination for the second day. Before we arrive there we still have to cross via the Menoaneng Pass at an altitude of 3030 metres.

The second night we will stay in the old Trading Post Molumong.

Day 3
We continue in a north eastern and northern direction. Our trail will take us over the rugged eastern plateau to the little towns Mokhotlong and Mapholaneng. Mokhotlong used to be known as one of the most secluded settlements of Africa and even to day it is not a metropolis. The horses “parked” outside the little shops create a “Wild West” atmosphere.

Via the Letseng Diamond Mine, the highest Diamond Mine in the world, we continue over the “Pass of Guns” (3240 m) in the direction of the ski resort Afriski and we descent the Moteng Pass (2840 m). This is one of the steepest mountain passes in Lesotho. During the descent we will have the most magnificent views far into the Eastern Free State. Via Butha-Buthe we return at the end of the day in Fouriesburg.

This tour can be extended to four days of which we will then spent two nights at Molumong. On the third day various activities can be undertaken such as guided hiking tours, pony trekking, swimming in the mountain streams or just relaxing.
