Tour Description The Eastern Free State is a beautiful area on the border of Lesotho, in the foothills of the Maloti Mountains and the Drakensberg, which has not yet been discovered by mass tourism.
You will still find there beautiful pristine nature, where game is still free roaming and where you will have the feeling as if you are alone on the world.
On our tour you will be accompanied by our experienced guides who will take you away from the paved roads and the typical tourist destinations. Transport is by comfortable and fully equipped Land Rover Defender or Toyota Land Cruiser.
Departures are from Mont Plaisir Guest Farm in Fouriesburg, close to the Lesotho border.
Clarens – Golden Gate National Park – Basotho Cultural Village Via the back tracks we leave Fouriesburg, pass Queen Victoria and Lesoba and go to the Old Mill Drift. This is an old trading post at a remote part of the Lesotho border. From there we pass Clarens, and via the Ash River outfall and back tracks we go to Basotho Cultural Village where we will see various aspects of traditional Basotho lifestyle.
From there we go to the Golden Gate National Park. Lunch will be en-route in the Golden Gate. After lunch we go to Clarens for some sight seeing, art galleries or just for a relaxed drink on one of the terraces. In the afternoon we return to Mont Plaisir Guest Farm.

Groot River Start to Finish Our route will take us to the source of the Groot River, where we will visit (in Slabberts) a site with ancient San rock paintings. This site is on a private property and has not been visited yet by many people. After that we follow the Groot River via dirt roads from its origin to the finish at Brindisie Drift where the Groot River joins the Caledon River at the Lesotho border.
Lunch will be en route on the river. This trip is ideal for birding, photography, and fishing and relaxing.

Fouriesburg - Didibheng Nature Park For this safari you will need a 4x4 vehicle. This is one of the hidden gems of the Eastern Free State. Through Fouriesburg Town we go to the Town Dam and from there to the natural Water Tunnels that supply the dam. After that we drive into the nature reserve, see the free roaming game and visit the crystal field and the fossil plants and the Anglo-Boer War trenches.
We will ascent the top of Maloti View, where you can enjoy the most stunning views of the mountains and the valleys of the area and Lesotho. Lunch will be in the nature reserve. In the afternoon we return to Mont Plaisir.

Fishing We go to the beautiful dam in the Didibheng Nature Reserve for our first stop where we hope to catch some Bass and Carp. From there we drive to the Arno Dam to fish on Bass and our last stop is the Groot River. Lunch will be either on the Arno Dam or the river, depending on where the fish bite.
