Tour Description
Enjoy the scenic Kraai the river, lined with willow trees and stunning rock formations; sleep under the stars and paddle some exciting rapids with flatter sections where you can enjoy the scenic gorge views and river birds.
Itinerary
Friday PM:
Arrive Rosstrevor Guest Farm (20kms from Barkly East) for welcome drinks and a chance to relax after your hike. Enjoy a hearty home-cooked meal from our restaurant - housed in a recently converted sandstone barn built in 1890. Accommodation will be provided in our charming Victorian farmhouse.
Saturday:
After a full farmhouse breakfast we will transport you and our 2-man inflatable river rafts to the Kraai river at Moshesh's Ford. After a familiarisation session your guide will pair you according to paddling experience and you will take a short tour downstream - to get everybody accustomed to the two-man inflatable boats.
This is a gentle, but extremely scenic stretch of the river, lined with willow trees and stunning rock formations.
During the picnic lunch stop there will be plenty of time to swim, take photos and observe the wonderful mountain views. Tonight you have the exciting option of camping at the Holkrans on Drumbo - a wonderful riverside cave which will give you the unique experience of living like a bushman for the night.
You will sleep around a fire and enjoy a hearty bush-braai. Alternatively you can be transported you back to Rosstrevor Guest Farm.
Sunday:
After breakfast, the paddling excursion will continue from the camp site at the Holkrans at Drumbo and continue down the Kraai. At the halfway point you will leave the river for a hike to a stunning bushman cave with over 97 paintings in pristine condition.
Back on the river, you will continue on to Holbrook. This section combines some exciting rapids with flatter sections where you can enjoy the scenic gorge views and river birds. The whole day will consist of approx 4 hours on the water, so there will still be plenty of time to stretch your legs and take photographs.
You will be transported back to Rosstrevor Guest Farm for a well-earned dinner and good night's sleep!
The following morning your hosts will cook your a hearty breakfast ahead of your onward travels.
The ideal time to paddle in Wild Mountain Country is during the balmy summers, when the rivers are running well. These are the next planned excursions, however if other dates suit you better then contact us:
