Tour Description
Dugong Beach Lodge is situated on the East-African Seaboard, on the coast of Mozambique within the boundaries of The Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary is the first privately managed Specially Protected National Park in Mozambique. The 30 000 hectares of pristine marine and wildlife territory provides a unique 'Beach and Wilderness' experience in a hidden corner of sub-tropical Africa.
This diverse eco-system of wilderness and wetland, with its powder white beaches and crystal clear water is host to a magnificent array of fish, dolphin and very importantly, the nearly extinct "Dugong".
Shallow and deepwater reefs reveal beautiful creatures such as the leatherback turtle, sailfish, manta ray, to name a few.
Big deep-sea game fishing of marlin and barracuda is truly spectacular and the large flocks of flamingos and pelicans are a sight to behold.
The Lodge
Dugong Lodge offers ten luxuriously appointed framed tented rooms with hardwood floors, en-suite bathrooms, huge feature baths and outside showers, under thatched Jekka grass canopies.
Guest rooms have two twin beds or one king-size bed and are equipped with hair-drier, fans and mosquito nets; all open onto a private patio.
Please note that this is a Malaria area. Please consult your physician or pharmacist for advice regarding precautionary measures.
All bedrooms are equipped with mosquito nets and anti-repellents are available at the Camp.
Itinerary
Day 1
Depart from Johannesburg International Airport to Mozambique. Baggage is limited to 20kg per seated person.
After clearing customs and immigration at Vilanculos you'll be transferred boat or light aircraft. Guest arrivals affected by delayed flights should be accommodated at the expense of the airline concerned and will be transferred the following morning.
Day 2 - 5
Days at leisure. A typical day begins with a lovely breakfast savoured amidst the tranquil surroundings of nature.
Water sport enthusiasts can look forward to an array of activities, including Salt Water fly fishing, Deep Sea fishing, Scuba Diving, Snorkelling, Pedal Boats and Kayaks.
Shallow and deepwater reefs reveal beautiful creatures such as great and leatherback turtles, sailfish and manta ray, to name a few.
For the less energetic, quite simply, relax and enjoy.
The idyllic setting may even include large flocks of flamingoes and pelicans, truly a sight to behold.
Later, enjoy sundowners with new friends, followed by a scrumptious dinner.
Afterwards, gaze at the stars in an African night sky while you ponder tomorrow's "typical day".
Day 6
After breakfast you are transferred back to the mainland for your flight from Vilanculos to Johannesburg where the tour ends.
