Tour Description The Kruger National Park is one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world and offers the perfect opportunity for visitors to experience the excitement and adventure that Africa has to offer.
The Park is home to more than 500 birds species and 147 mammals including the famous “Big 5”, 10,000 Elephant, 2,000 Lion and 150,000 Impala Antelope.
Set in the heart of Zululand, the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Park is the oldest game reserve in Africa where Zulu kings such as Dingiswayo and Shaka hunted and put in place the first conservation laws, where today the "big five" of African legend stalk the verdant savannah. The Park became world renowned for its white rhino conservation.
On this leg of the safari we visit a traditional Zulu Village, where we experience the essence of the Zulu culture through song and dance and a tour of the village. We also visit a crocodile farm where we get to see some of these beasts from nearby. We visit St. Lucia and the False Bay National Park where we take a cruise on Lake St. Lucia spotting some Hippos and Crocodiles.
Accommodation On this Safari we spend the first 3 nights at the 4 star Umbhaba Lodge situated in Hazyview. situated in Hazyview.
We then move to the Zululand Safari Lodge in northern Zululand and spend the next 3 nights there. This Lodge is situated in a private reserve adjacent to the Hluhluwe Umfolozi National Park.
Vehicles To get really close up to the world’s most intriguing creatures like buffalo, elephant, rhino and the elusive big cats you'll be escorted into this fascinating wonderland of sights and sounds. Transportation to and from Johannesburg and in Zululand is done in luxury air-conditioned mini-buses. Game drives are in specially adapted, open 4x4 safari vehicles, maintained to the highest standards to ensure maximum comfort while driving in the Park.
Itinerary Day 1 Depart from Johannesburg early and head towards the Kruger Park. En-route we explore the Mpumalanga Panorama route, and along the way we visit some breathtaking views and spectacular scenery. We stroll back in time, down the historic main street of Pilgrim's Rest. We stop at God's Window, an overwhelmingly beautiful viewpoint with a 1000m drop into the "Lowveld". En route we travel via Graskop and some magnificent waterfalls.
Upon arrival we check in to the 4 star Umbhaba Lodge. We have time to explore the Lodge before we embark on our first night Game Drive. Our open 4X4 Game Drive vehicles are the perfect vantage point and will prove to make this an unforgettable experience. We arrive back in the camp when dinner is served and we have time to enjoy the magical sounds of the African night before retiring to our bungalows.
Day 2 & 3 Depart early at dawn for our morning game drive followed by breakfast. Thereafter depart on a mid-morning game drive where we try to spot as many animals as possible. This is followed by a break for lunch when we stop at the lodge where we take time to have lunch (own expense).
We will embark on a afternoon Drive to see if we can spot some more of the magnificent creatures that roam this area. Our Game Drive vehicles are radio linked to other vehicles in the Park and therefore we have an advantage in tracking down the elusive "Big 5".
We will return to our camp in time to enjoy dinner and talk about everything we experienced on this day
Day 4 We depart after breakfast and head for the Northern Zululand area where we will spend the next few days of our journey. En-route we drive via Nelspruit, Amsterdam & Pongola and stop several times during the day to freshen up and to shop at the local roadside markets.
Zululand has long been famous as the home of the Zulu people and boasts many world-class attractions and some breathtaking scenery. We arrive at the Zululand Safari Lodge near the Hluhluwe Game Reserve in the afternoon and relax before we have dinner at the lodge.
Day 5 After breakfast we visit the False Bay National Park at Lake St. Lucia. We take a boat cruise on this inland saltwater lake and have a good chance of seeing Hippos and Crocodiles.
We depart on an afternoon game drive into the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve. This reserve is world renowned for the greatest concentration of Black and White Rhino.
Dinner is served at the lodge.
Day 6 After breakfast we have the choice of doing a guided walk (getting up close to animals like Zebra, Wildebeest and other Antelope) in the reserve or an afternoon game drive on the open Land Rovers.
We visit the town of Hluhluwe before we head to the Dumazulu Zulu Village where we take a tour through this authentic Zulu village. This once-in-a-lifetime experience shows us the lifestyle of the traditional Zulu and we participate in a cultural song and dance performance.
We visit a crocodile farm and wildlife refuge, before returning to the Lodge in the late afternoon. Dinner is served at the lodge.
Day 7 We depart after breakfast and head north-west towards Johannesburg. After the scenic drive past many rural villages and small towns we reach Johannesburg in the late afternoon.
