Guests staying at this distinctive Lodge can choose from a wide range of activities that cater for all tastes. Sea-kayak or wind-surf if you are energetic; take a day trip to the islands and enjoy snorkelling, scuba diving or game fishing; explore Vilanculos or just relax on the beach and soak up the sun.
Vilanculos Beach Lodge is the perfect base from which to explore the Bazaruto Archipelago. The Bazaruto Archipelago consists of five pristine islands, the closest being 10 km offshore of Vilanculos
Most of the Archipelago has been declared a National Park and sustains a diverse range of flora and fauna. Visitors are often rewarded with sightings of dolphins, turtles, rays, whales (at the start of summer) and, if you are lucky, a dugong.
The Lodge
The chalets at Vilanculos Beach Lodge are luxury en-suite with either one or two bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms and verandas.
Each chalet is built on ironwood stilts with raised mahogany decks and a tasteful combination of mahogany and reed walls.
The chalets have total privacy and a magnificent sea view. The beautifully constructed restaurant and bar offer traditional Mozambican and standard western cuisine.
Itinerary
Day 1
Depart from OR Tambo (Johannesburg) International Airport to Mozambique. Baggage is limited to 20kg per seated person. After clearing customs and immigration at Vilanculos you'll be transferred to the Lodget.
Day 2 - 4
Days at leisure. A typical day begins with a lovely breakfast savoured amidst the tranquil surroundings of nature
Non-motorised activities are available on the beach at Vilanculos Beach Lodge include sea-kayaks, paddle-skis, laser sail-boat, hobie and beach volleyball.
The sea is calm and shallow in front of the Lodge and ideal for swimming and paddling. Comfortable loungers, large thatched umbrellas and waiter service guarantee "100% relaxation" on the beach. Alternatively spend the day next to the swimming pool and enjoy the tranquil gardens.
Vilanculos is proving to be a popular kite surfing destination, particularly between the months of September and February.

* Fishing
The Bazaruto Archipelago is a well-known fishing destination, particularly for marlin and sailfish anglers. Other game-fish such as kingfish, king mackerel, wahoo, dorado and bonito are frequently caught. Catch and release is encouraged.
* Diving & snorkelling at Bazaruto Archipelago
Spectacular coral reefs with bountiful sea-life ensure memorable diving and snorkelling. Over 600 species of fish have been recorded during dives and turtles, morays and rays are often seen.
* Boat hire
Hire a boat for the day and enjoy "island-hopping". Prior arrangements need to be made should you wish to visit any of the island lodges.
* Dhow trips
Visit Magaruque or Benguerra Island aboard a traditional dhow. You will be given the opportunity to snorkel and wander along the island beaches.
* Other activities
Late afternoon visits to the market with the Lodge driver can be arranged. He will accompany you on a wander through the market and town centre. En-route back to the Lodge you will be driven along the "Rua Marginal" (beach road) and have the opportunity to stop at the various roadside curio markets. Duration approximately two hours.
There are a number of restaurants and bars in Vilanculos. Some of these are within walking distance of the Lodge and can be easily accessed from the beach.
Day 5
After breakfast you are transferred to the airport for your flight from Vilanculos to Johannesburg where the tour ends.
Malaria
Mozambique is a malaria area. It is advisable to take malaria prophylaxis. Consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding recommended brands.
